Kief had told Tarc all about the amazing things his grandpa had in his study; the telescope, maps of the moons and stars, tidal charts, an altimant and brass compass for navigation… Kief remembered staying up late into the evenings listening to his grandpa’s tales of adventure as a young sailor.  It was his grandfather that first instilled in him a love for the sea.  It was more of an awakening than anything else.  He remembered like it was yesterday, his grandpa helping him hold the altimant to his eye teaching him how to take a sight.  His hands were worn and leathery but gentle.  When his grandpa worked, studying and writing, Kief would get lost in play, charting his imaginary course through monster-filled waters to lands never seen by man.
